When the Words Don’t Stick—What It Might Mean
If your child puts in the effort but still struggles to read basic words, it could be a sign of something deeper than just needing more practice.
As a Licensed Educational Psychologist serving Placer County since 2014, I’ve worked with many students who are bright, motivated, and well-supported—but still find reading painfully slow or confusing.
This kind of difficulty is often rooted in the way the brain processes language. Dyslexia is one possible explanation. Children with dyslexia often struggle with decoding—sounding out letters, recognizing sight words, or remembering common word patterns. This doesn’t mean they aren’t smart. In fact, it’s often the opposite.
When reading feels like a puzzle where the pieces don’t quite fit, it may be time for a comprehensive assessment.
If you're in the Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, or surrounding areas, I offer reading evaluations that can help determine if dyslexia—or something else—is getting in the way. Let’s find clarity and a plan that works.
